India-based Tilaknagar Industries has acquired Punjab Expo bottling unit in a deal worth Rs55m ($1.12m) in order to expand its footprint in the northern Indian region.

Tilaknagar chairman and managing director Amit Dahanukar said that the acquisition will aid the company in marking its presence across India and consolidating its market share.

The focus on premiumisation and ongoing geographic expansion is expected to enable the company to expand while capitalising on new opportunities.

The acquisition is also expected to help the company to ensure lower costs due to savings on transportation and sourcing.

Punjab Expo has a bottling capacity of 50,000 cases per month.
