UFP Technologies has announced the acquisition of medical device contract manufacturer DAS Medical for undisclosed amount.
Founded in 2010, DAS Medical specialises in the design, development, and manufacturing of robotic draping systems, fluid control pouches, and single-use surgical equipment covers.
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, US, the company offers a range of manufacturing capabilities that include sterile packaging, ultrasonic welding, RF welding, non-woven conversion, impulse sealing, heat sealing, and injection moulding.
UFP Technologies chairman, CEO, and president Jeffrey Bailly said: “Adding DAS Medical to the UFP MedTech portfolio is another important step in our growth strategy.
“DAS’s expertise in thin film converting and near-shore manufacturing is a perfect complement to our best-in-class RF welding technologies. Along with our new facility in Tijuana, Mexico, this adds another low-cost manufacturing option for our customers.”
“We are strategically and culturally aligned, with a laser focus on creating value for customers in similar growth segments.
“We currently share key strategic customers and can now create more value by offering a full suite of services for single-use, flexible material-based medical devices.”
UFP designs and manufactures subassemblies, products, components, and packaging mainly for the medical market.
It uses specialised films, foams, and plastics to convert raw materials through radio frequency welding, molding, laminating, and fabricating techniques.
UFP Technologies creates custom packaging, component, and product solutions for customers in automotive, defense, electronics, consumer, aerospace, and industrial markets.
DAS Medical president and CEO Daniel Lee said: “We both have expertise in creating differentiated solutions leveraging expertise in medical film converting for critical single-use applications.
“With access to UFP’s sales engine, development engineers and growing technology portfolio, we will be able to accelerate the growth of our proven low-cost manufacturing platform in the Dominican Republic.”
In October this year, Avient added two solutions to its MEVOPUR medical-grade materials line to help companies manufacture pharmaceutical packaging and medical devices to meet their sustainability targets easily.
