Valmet, a supplier of technologies and automation services for the pulp and paper industry, is initiating change negotiations regarding temporary layoffs across parts of its Finnish operations.

The talks will commence on 10 November 2025, complying with the Finnish Co-operation Act.

More than 950 employees, primarily operating out of Jyväskylä, Tikkurila in Vantaa, and Raisio, will be affected by the talks.

Valmet intends the move to align capacity and enhance cost efficiency within the packaging and paper business area and the global supply unit.

The timing and scope of the job cuts will be determined during the talks, with implementation planned for the first half of 2026.

The packaging and paper business area, which includes packaging and paper machines unit, sits within Valmet’s biomaterial solutions and services segment.

The negotiations will cover employees in the packaging and paper (P&P) machines unit, and personnel at the P&P manufacturing unit’s machine workshop and foundry in Jyväskylä, within global supply.

All employee groups in these units in the country are included in the scope.

Valmet employs 19,000 people around the globe, including 6,000 in Finland.

In 2024, the company completed change negotiations within the board and paper mills business unit in Finland, which were aimed at enhancing the profitability, as well as the competitiveness, of the paper unit’s operations.
