Finland-based Valmet has secured a deal to supply a 5,300mm-wide (reel) off-machine coater rebuild for Hansol Paper’s site in Shintanjin, South Korea.
The coater to be delivered will include a new OptiCoat Layer curtain coating station, which gives improved coverage even with thin layers and reduces the use of thermal coating colour in paper production.

The order also includes two calendars, a reel and coating air dryers, whose capacity and temperatures will be optimised for quality thermal paper.
In addition, a supply system for the curtain coater unit will be supplied along with the rebuild machine, which is expected to become operational by next year.
Capable of producing fine paper and thermal grades, the machine has been designed to operate at 1,500m/min speed.
Valmet senior sales manager Pekka Jernberg said: “The making of thermal paper is quite challenging. Thermal coating colour is very expensive and requires very sensitive drying.

With the new Valmet machine, Hansol Paper aims to convert its paper mill into a thermal paper production site.
The machine will also help the company increase its annual thermal paper production capacity to around 320,000t and its market share in high-quality thermal grades.
The value of the order is expected to be between €10 and €20m.
