Plastic packaging specialist ALPLA Group has signed an agreement to acquire Germany-based KM Packaging to strengthen its ALPLAinject division.

The details of the transaction have not been disclosed by the parties involved. The transaction's completion remains subject to regulatory approval from competition authorities.

The deal will expand ALPLA’s capabilities in manufacturing closures for tubes, bottles, and jars, including production in clean rooms at six additional sites across Germany, Austria, Poland, and the US.

ALPLA CCO Nicolas Lehner said: “The smooth combination of close customer relationships, technological expertise and a focus on sustainability aligns closely with our profile.

“The added know-how will boost our role as a leading developer, manufacturer and recycler of plastic packaging.”

KM Packaging, headquartered in Ubstadt-Weiher, was formed in 2008 through the merger of family-owned companies Kutterer Kunststofftechnik and Mauer.

It will be integrated into ALPLAinject, as part of the deal. With approximately 500 employees across its facilities, KM Packaging produces more than 6.5 billion injection-moulded parts annually.

The company’s product portfolio includes standardised and custom-made closures, caps, dispensing systems, and jars made from polypropylene and polyethylene (PE), primarily serving the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

It also offers screw caps and flip-tops made of high-density PE for monomaterial packaging applications.

ALPLA will retain KM Packaging’s management team, led by managing director Klaus Mauer, and all site personnel.

Mauer said: “We and ALPLA are tradition-filled family companies sharing values such as trust, responsibility and extremely high quality standards. Integration into the ALPLA 'Family of Pioneers' will secure the future of the sites, jobs and customer relationships.”

In February this year, ALPLA opened a new facility in Chachoengsao, Thailand, enhancing its operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
