Amcor launches sustainable packaging challenge for start-ups 

The initiative focuses on critical research and development priorities for flexible and paper-based packaging.

Packaging solutions company Amcor has launched the Amcor Lift-Off Winter 2025/26 Challenge, inviting start-ups worldwide to collaborate on breakthrough solutions for more sustainable packaging. 

The company describes the initiative as focused on critical research and development priorities for flexible and paper-based packaging. 

The challenge builds on previous editions that fostered partnerships with companies in AI-powered waste analytics, reusable packaging and bio-based materials.  

Start-ups are encouraged to submit solutions addressing three key areas: home-compostable adhesives for flexible packaging, high-performance compostable oxygen transmission rate barriers for paper packaging, and nature-based barrier additives for film formulation. 

The challenge will proceed in three phases, with selected start-ups invited to present their technologies to Amcor's research and development team for opportunities including joint development and potential investment of up to $500,000. 

Amcor vice-president of corporate venturing and open innovation Frank Lehmann stated: "The Lift-Off initiative has delivered outstanding results, and we are eager to carry this success forward.  

“With the launch of our new initiative, we reaffirm Amcor's dedication to advancing circularity and environmental responsibility through collaboration with the brightest minds in the start-up ecosystem." 

In early November 2025, Amcor announced the expansion of its printing, lamination and converting capabilities in North America to serve the protein packaging market.   

Amcor recently published its first quarter results, reporting growth in profit and reaffirming its earnings outlook for fiscal 2026.  

The company’s net income stood at $262m in the quarter ended 30 September 2025, up from $191m in the same period a year earlier, while net sales soared 68% year-on-year to $5.74bn at constant currency.
