Arburg is set to acquire Netherlands-based Stork Plastics Machinery (Stork IMM) from Stibbe Participaties, which links two companies in the plastic injection moulding machine sector.

The acquisition is expected to close in two months, with the financial terms remaining undisclosed.

Stork IMM makes high-performance injection moulding machines for packaging uses that require demanding production standards. The business has a history in plastics machinery and is known especially for large, rapid-cycle machines used in thin-wall packaging manufacturing.

Stork IMM’s equipment is used for crates, food packs, and pots, as well as other high-output packaging products.

The company provides support for its installed base through servicing, spare parts, retrofit work and overhaul activity.

Its machines are in use among packaging producers across Europe and in selected international markets.

Stork IMM CEO Eric Pans added: “The acquisition by Arburg will help to strengthen and expand Stork’s business activities, among other things through international sales and service capacities, a broader product range, synergies in purchasing and supply chain, as well as further professionalisation of processes.”

German family-owned company Arburg is among the leading global producers of injection moulding machines. The wider Arburg group also includes AMKmotion, which makes electric drive systems.

Its plastics processing range includes Allrounder injection moulding machines, robotic systems and turnkey systems tailored to customers and industries. The portfolio also covers digital products and services.

Arburg's machines are used to make plastic products for sectors, including construction and equipment engineering, electronics, leisure, medicine, mobility, and packaging.

Based in Lossburg, Germany, the company also has its own operations at 37 sites in 27 countries and, together with trading partners, has a presence in more than 100 countries.

Out of 3,400 employees, roughly 2,800 are in Germany and around 600 work in Arburg organisations elsewhere in the world.

Arburg CEO Volker Nilles said: “With this acquisition, two strong brands that have been well known on the market for many decades are now coming together: a clear win-win situation for everyone, and especially for customers."
