International Paper company DS Smith has rolled out a brown box format for spirit producer Absolut Vodka’s flavoured vodka line and other spirits products.

The packaging uses fibre-based corrugated cardboard and is fully recyclable.

It has been developed to protect bottles during transport to shops, outlets and direct customers in markets around the world.

The companies have produced several box structures for different Absolut products and flavours, including lime, citron, pear and watermelon.

Flavour variants are identified through colour coding and printed artwork on the outside of the packs, using the brand’s existing typeface.

Earlier packaging for the flavoured vodka range used a white glossy finish, which remains in use for some variants.

A part of the Pernod Ricard group, Absolut Vodka has been shipping its flavoured vodka range to customers in Europe in brown corrugated cardboard boxes since 2025.

DS Smith key account manager Anton Bengtsson said: “We changed the ink and branding on the exterior of the Absolut Vodka packaging to complement the aesthetic of the new brown boxes.

"The solution allows the packaging to withstand pressure and resist crushing while simultaneously providing effective cushioning for the glass bottles during transit, shipping and handling.

“We are delighted for the opportunity to collaborate with and support Absolut Vodka in their packaging requirements, and as one of the world’s most iconic and innovative brands in the spirits business.”

Last month, DS Smith Packaging Systems introduced a new range of mandrel case forming and sealing equipment designed for higher-speed packaging lines.
