Sustainable food packaging developer Duni Group has introduced Tray Contrast and Ronda Contrast, a black paper-based packaging line for food presentation and sorting in relevant waste systems.
The company said the material choice also supports a lower climate impact.
With Tray Contrast and Ronda Contrast, Duni Group is offering a paper-based option intended to keep the black appearance while making sorting easier in existing systems.
The range covers black paper-based trays and bowls with a barrier layer, paired with transparent lids to allow product visibility on shelves and in take-away use.
The products are mainly designed for cold food, though they can be used at temperatures up to 70°C.
The lids are made to fit tightly for safer handling.
The trays and bowls are produced from FSC-certified and other controlled materials and do not contain added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Some items in the range can also be customised with customer branding.
Duni Group said that a sushi restaurant selling 500 portions a week could cut plastic use by around half a tonne a year by replacing a 20g black plastic tray with a paper-based version, depending on the format chosen.
Duni Group boxes and bowls category manager Matilda Pettersson said: "We see a clear need for packaging solutions that both strengthen the visual expression of food and work in practice – all the way after use.
“With Tray Contrast and Ronda Contrast, we have developed a black paper-based alternative that is adapted to existing sorting flows and, at the same time, meets the trade's requirements for functionality, visibility and handling.”
Last month, Duni Group introduced Sealable Ronda, a sealable paper bowl product under the Duniform brand, aimed at the demand for ready-to-eat salads and bowl meals.
