MM Board & Paper has introduced ALASKA BRIGHT NEW, a folding boxboard developed for packaging converters.

According to the company, the product uses reduced weight in selected grammages while retaining the print results, surface finish and converting characteristics associated with ALASKA BRIGHT.

Made at MM Kotkamills in Finland, the board is intended for several end uses, including cosmetics, dry food, graphical work, and healthcare and personal care items.

The company said the material provides a printable surface suited to coding applications, including laser and inkjet systems.

It added that demand is rising for packaging able to carry more data while measures such as the EU’s Digital Product Passport are altering industry requirements, making clear and readable codes increasingly important.

The new product is based on its work in virgin fibre cartonboard.

At MM Kotkamills, production includes a board machine, a rebuilt paper machine and an integrated pulp mill, which the company said helps maintain process control and consistent output.

MM Board & Paper innovation and technical services director Michael Strobl said: “When packaging needs to look sharp, run smoothly, and deliver consistent results day after day, reliability matters, especially in everyday production. ALASKA BRIGHT NEW supports customers in raising their products to new heights with less material, without changing what already works.

“With ALASKA BRIGHT NEW, material efficiency has been improved while all other key characteristics remain unchanged. Appearance, surface quality, print performance, and converting behaviour stay exactly as customers know them - refined, not reinvented.”
