New Tech Plastics plans Piqua facility upgrade

The planned works are intended to modernise the site so it can house extra production lines and capacity additions over time.

Flexible plastic packaging producer New Tech Plastics is preparing to extend its operations to Piqua, Ohio, US, by refurbishing an industrial building that is currently underused.

The company, which has operated for more than 40 years, manufactures thin-gauge film used for industrial packaging.

The planned works are intended to modernise the site so it can house extra production lines and capacity additions over time.

New Tech Plastics CEO Shawn Turner said: "With the support from JobsOhio, we look forward to expanding our long-standing business to increase production capacity and enter new product lines.

“Each of these objectives will yield new jobs north of Dayton."

The renovation is also expected to deal with repairs that have been outstanding at the property, increase the facility’s ability to support new activities, and add 30 jobs.

The project has been approved for a $250,000 JobsOhio Revitalisation Grant. The JobsOhio programme supports developments that keep or add jobs, address environmental risks, and close financing gaps.

Its main emphasis is on sites where redevelopment and remediation costs are higher than the value of the building or land, making the property difficult to develop competitively under present market conditions.

City of Piqua economic development director Chris Schmiesing commented: “The City of Piqua is pleased to support New Tech Plastics in its expansion and the positive impact it will bring to our community.

“This project will not only breathe new life into an existing industrial facility but also create new jobs and foster continued growth within the City of Piqua.”
