Japanese paper and packaging group Oji Holdings has announced plans to establish a liquid packaging carton production facility in Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam, as part of its broader expansion strategy in Southeast Asia.

The upcoming plant will be situated in the Amata Long Thanh Industrial Park, covering a site of 57,000m².

The total investment is projected at Y16bn ($103.88m), with commercial operations scheduled to commence in March 2028.

The new facility will produce and supply liquid packaging materials, including aseptic packaging cartons designed for long-term storage at room temperature.

Oji Holdings has been extending its reach in the liquid packaging segment through IPI, an Italian manufacturer and distributor it acquired in May 2023.

The Vietnam facility will reinforce its presence in fast-growing markets across Southeast Asia and nearby regions.

In addition to production, the business intends to create a collection and recycling framework for liquid packaging cartons — materials typically regarded as difficult to recycle — through the use of new technologies and cooperation with other companies.

The project is aligned with Oji Holdings’ Medium-Term Management Plan 2027, announced in May 2025, which aims to reshape the company’s business portfolio by prioritising sustainable packaging solutions.

The initiative will contribute to advancing material recycling and promoting environmental and social sustainability in the region.

In March 2024, Oji India Packaging, part of Japan’s Oji Group, launched its fifth manufacturing facility in Sri City, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
