Parkside's latest addition to Yockenthwaite's portfolio was created following a decade of intense research and development.

British flexible packaging company Parkside has partnered with breakfast cereal producer Yockenthwaite Farm to develop new sustainable packaging for its granola range.

The packaging leverages Parkside’s flexible packaging material, Park2Nature.

The new material has high-barrier qualities and therefore protects the granola against the entrance of moisture and oxygen throughout the supply chain.

Meanwhile, Yockenthwaite’s new bag-in-a-box format replaces the original polypropylene bag and paper label packaging.

Yockenthwaite owner Liz Hird said: “Parkside has supported us throughout our journey to help us achieve a new level of packaging sustainability. The knowledge and expertise of each member of the team have helped us achieve a pack which not only looks great but has also increased our shelf life.”

Parkside developed its patented home-compostable, high-performance, flexible packaging material following a decade of intense research and development.

Its composability at home has been certified by TÜV. It also breaks down in domestic compost heaps in under 26 weeks and in less than 12 weeks in industrial composting facilities in controlled ambient temperatures.

Parkside sales account manager Paul Lenihan said: “Sustainable packaging doesn’t have to mean a compromise in performance. You can meet your sustainability goals and have a pack that meets every functional and aesthetic need when you work with the right packaging partner and the best, most innovative materials on the market.”

Earlier this month, Parkside announced the launch of its new range of sustainable lidding films to help address the packaging challenges facing the UK.
