SÜDPACK has unveiled the SKINPro and Multifol Extreme packaging lines, aiming to address the needs of seafood and other perishable foods.

The German company’s SKINPro system is designed for products such as shrimp skewers, salmon fillets, and whole fish.

It uses a thin top film that closely adheres to the product, accommodating various shapes and contours, and is paired with a compatible bottom web.

This approach is intended to keep products secure, reduce liquid loss, and allow for different display options at the point of sale.

The packaging also aims to extend shelf life by limiting oxygen exposure and providing tailored barrier properties.

The SKINPro range includes bottom webs made from PE, PP, and APET materials, as well as mono-material options that are designed to meet recyclability standards. These materials are suitable for use on standard skin packaging equipment.

Multifol Extreme is another flexible film solution by SÜDPACK, developed for items that require robust protection such as fatty or sharp-edged seafood and frozen goods.

The film is lighter than traditional PA/PE structures by 30%, which can lead to material savings throughout the supply chain.

For example, a 150µm Multifol Extreme film can be used in place of a 200µm conventional thermoforming film without reducing product protection.

Additional reductions in material use are possible when both base and lidding films from the Multifol Extreme line are combined.

Last month, PPC Flex acquired SÜDPACK’s US operations for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition includes the facility in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, which is situated near key meat and cheese production areas in the US.
