UPM Specialty Papers will exhibit a range of new fibre-based, recyclable packaging solutions at the Fachpack 2025 event, a European trade fair for packaging, technology, and processes.

These solutions are the result of co-creation with customers and experts from the packaging value chain, aimed at meeting future packaging needs and supporting sustainability goals in line with the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

The portfolio includes a variety of advanced solutions developed through partnerships with Royal Vaassen, EvoPak, Walkers Chocolate, BOBST, Michelman, and Orkla Suomi.

These collaborations have yielded recyclable, food-safe barrier paper solutions with applications ranging from coffee and tea canisters to chocolate wrappers, all designed to provide alternatives to traditional packaging materials.

One of the highlights is the recyclable barrier paper created in partnership with Royal Vaassen, suitable for a broad spectrum of end uses that require medium to high barrier properties.

UPM Specialty Papers and EvoPak, along with Walkers Chocolate, will also present a recyclable paper wrapper for chocolates that ensures protection from oxygen and grease while maintaining packaging line efficiency.

Another product, developed in a collaboration with BOBST and Michelman, is a high-barrier, paper-based packaging solution for products that need a long shelf-life, including coffee and spices.

Orkla Suomi, meanwhile, has teamed up with UPM Specialty Papers to test a fibre-based wrapper for milk chocolate, replacing the traditional plastic wrapper during a six-month pilot to evaluate its performance without sacrificing recyclability.
