Yangi has launched a new dry-formed fibre tray designed for packaging meat, fish, deli items, and ready meals.

The tray is made using the company's Cellera manufacturing platform, which allows packaging suppliers to adopt dry forming processes on a large scale.

The trays have been tested for use with chilled, frozen, microwave, and oven applications.

They are intended to maintain their structure and durability during normal handling, offering sealing capabilities and compatibility with modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to help meet shelf-life requirements in the food sector.

Manufactured from renewable virgin fibres and free from PFAS, the trays feature a functional laminate that can be adapted depending on usage needs.

Several variants are designed to be suitable for recycling in existing paper systems, depending on the chosen laminate.

Both bleached and unbleached versions are available, with sizes tailored to different requirements. The design also supports options such as debossing, high-resolution digital printing across all surfaces, including the sides, and a finish ready for labelling.

By removing the wet stage from the fibre forming process through its Cellera technology, Yangi reports shorter production cycles of four to six seconds and fewer manufacturing steps compared to traditional pulp moulding.

Yangi founder Anna Altner said: “With renewable materials, a PFAS-free composition, ~ 80% lower CO₂ impact compared to plastic alternatives, and scalable industrial reliability, Yangi’s dry-formed tray represents more than just a product launch.

“For packaging producers and brands seeking alternatives to wet-moulded fibre, it signals the arrival of dry forming as the new benchmark in fibre-based packaging.”

Last September, Yangi completed a Series A funding round, raising €10m ($11.7m) to expand its fibre packaging production capacity.
