Austria-based packaging and recycling company ALPLA Group’s plastic packaging plant in Calamba, Philippines, is the first independent base facility established by the company in the country.

The plant is designed to supply packaging products to customers in the food and beverage, healthcare and consumer goods sectors, with a focus on high-quality and more sustainable formats.

Adaptation work on the shell building began in early 2025, with the first production equipment coming onstream by mid-year, following which the company commenced producing plastic bottles and closures in Calamba City.

ALPLA held the official opening of the Calamba facility in March 2026, making it the 200th packaging plant within the company’s international manufacturing network.

The Calamba site was developed with an investment of 500m pesos (approximately $8.34m) and currently employs around 40 people.

This investment is intended to reinforce the company’s footprint in the Asia-Pacific region and forms part of the broader Philippine-Austrian economic partnership.

Location of ALPLA plastic packaging facility

The ALPLA plastic packaging facility is located in Filinvest Innovation Park – Calamba (FIPC).

The industrial park lies adjacent to the Filinvest Technology Park industrial zone within the 350-hectare (864.8-acre) Ciudad de Calamba township in Filinvest Land’s industrial estate, which offers Grade-A ready-built factories and industrial plots.

ALPLA initially operated as an on-site partner, manufacturing preforms and bottles within the Philippine filling facilities of a multinational client. The relocation to a dedicated facility at FIPC reflects the company’s long-term strategy for its operations in the region.

With the launch of the plant, ALPLA is now broadening its capabilities to serve beverage customers as well as other industries with a more flexible product range.

ALPLA plastic packaging facility details

The ALPLA plastic packaging facility is spread across two completed ready-built factory (RBF) units within FIPC, providing 4,800m² (51,666ft²) of space for production, administration and logistics.

The plug-and-play set-up RBF units played a major role in enabling ALPLA to move from build-out to live production in under 12 months.

The plant is equipped with four production lines and features advanced processing technology. It produces containers, bottles and closures for a range of sectors including multinational fast-moving consumer goods companies, international beverage producers and domestic manufacturers.

The site has been designed with provision for future capacity increases, with space and infrastructure in place to accommodate up to five additional lines as needed.

Process technology at ALPLA Calamba plant

The Calamba packaging plant manufactures containers, bottles and closures using three primary technologies: injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM), extrusion blow moulding (EBM) and compression moulding (CM).

ISBM technology is applied to produce plastic bottles from recyclable materials such as polyethylene terephthalate and polypropylene, with sizes starting from approximately 10ml. This process is suitable for manufacturing bottles with intricate geometries and structures to accommodate diverse product specifications in plastic packaging.

In EBM, the plastic material is first extruded into a tubular parison, which is then enclosed within a mould and expanded with air to form the final container. Packaging produced using this method typically has a weld line at the base. The technology supports the production of round, oval and handled designs, with scope for adjusting container geometry and wall thickness according to product requirements.

CM is employed for the large-scale, energy-efficient manufacture of plastic closures and caps.
