Finland-based packaging company Huhtamaki will expand its manufacturing capacity together with the consolidation of an external warehouse at its existing facility in Paris, Texas, US.

The expansion will allow the company to meet the growing demand for more advanced and sustainable folding cartons throughout the Southern and Midwestern states of the US. The folding cartons can offer busy consumers more convenient and hygienic food.

The company will lease the manufacturing facility and the warehouse. An investment of approximately $30m has been estimated in the production assets. The expansion is expected to create up to 80 jobs within the first three years.

Expected to start production in the first quarter of 2025, the facility will support the company in achieving its 2030 objective for Customer Excellence.

Huhtamaki Paris facility location and expansion details

Huhtamaki’s existing Paris facility is situated at 800 West Centre Street in Texas. The site is about 120 miles away from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

The plant focuses on eco-friendly folding cartons for quick, secure, and hygienic food packaging in the US, catering to the growing demand for creative packaging solutions in the food service industry.

The expansion will increase the folding cartons capacity of the company’s North America business division, supporting the growth of foodservice industry.

Existing Paris facility details

The Paris facility manufactures folding cartons, nested trays, and paperboard clamshells used by the foodservice industry.

The facility is a part of assets and business that Huhtamaki acquired from Paris Packaging, a speciality folding cartons manufacturer based in the US, in September 2011 for €22.8m ($32.5m), strengthening its position in the North American foodservice and consumer products packaging market.

The acquired business includes three manufacturing units in Paris, Texas; Andalusia, Alabama; and Hopkinsville, Kentucky; employing 300 employees and forming a part of Huhtamaki’s North American business division.

Huhtamaki’s product portfolio

Huhtamaki is a packaging manufacturer for consumer packaged goods, as well as food service and retail industries, offering solutions for operators and distributors nationwide. Huhtamaki offers paper cups, plates, boxes, trays, bowls, containers and lids, flexible packaging and labels.

Envirable paper food trays, Strongholder drink carriers and trays, brio moulded fibre bowls, Savaday moulded fibre tableware, Chinet comfort cups, and Paperpro Naturals by Chinet moulded fibre tableware are some of the company’s brands for the food service industry.

The company’s products for the CPG industry include Majestik lids, Ultrakan containers, Convocan containers, Quikspread containers, and Medley lids.

Its blueloop brand has been designed primarily for circularity. The company offers a wide range of sustainable packaging solutions such as 100% mono-PET Push Tab® blister lid for flexible packaging business.
