Valmet

Valmet will supply an OptiConcept M containerboard production line for Yuen Foong Yu (YFY) Packaging’s Xin Wu site in Taoyuan County in Taiwan.

Expected to become operational in the third quarter of 2016, the new production line will produce fluting grades from 100% recycled raw materials.

With the design speed of 1,200m/min, the new machine will be capable of producing close to 300,000t of board a year.

Valmet Paper business line president Jari Vähäpesola said: “This high-efficient containerboard making line ordered by YFY Packaging will be Valmet’s seventh OptiConcept M production line to be supplied globally.

“The new production line will be able to reduce both carbon footprint, as well as energy consumption significantly.”

Said to be one of the most advanced, fully integrated pulp and paperboard mills across the globe, Holmen’s Iggesund mill manufactures paperboard known as Invercote, which is used in the packaging for perfume, chocolate, wine, spirits, cigarettes and CD covers.

Work under the project will be carried out in two phases during 2015 and 2016.

During Phase I, Valmet will rebuild two pressure diffusers, one in the cooking plant and one in the brown stock washing, where a new TwinRoll press, will be installed.

In Phase II, Valmet will extend the oxygen delignification stage into a OxyTrac system, which will make it possible to still reach lower kappa numbers in case of a further production increase.

The project will also see the installation of two new TwinRoll presses in the bleach plant.

Upon completion, the rebuild will improve production stability, cut variable costs and increase pulp production capacity by 15% equal to 50,000t from the current 340,000t a year.
