Global sustainable packaging solutions provider DS Smith has announced a €6m ($6.4m) investment at its Eerbeek packaging plant in the Netherlands.
The investment was made for the purchase a new four-colour converting machine. With this, the company aims to address the growing customer demand for sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging.
The advanced converting machine is designed to produce FEFCO 0201 bespoke boxes and other alternative grades tailored to customers’ requirements.
Currently in the start-up phase, the machine boasts an advanced automatic inline error detection system to ensure the highest quality in printing and glueing.
The computer-controlled technology enhances the precision of die-cutting lines in the packaging and folding process.
It also improves machinery accuracy and monitors the printing and glueing quality.

Last month, the British packaging company announced an investment of £48m in a new fibre preparation line at its paper mill in Kemsley, England, UK.
