Materials solutions specialist Avient has launched a new ‘oxygen scavenging’ additive to improve recyclability.
The additive, dubbed ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1, is the first product in the company’s new range of oxygen scavengers.
It is formulated to enhance the recyclability of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging, supporting brands in extending product shelf life and advancing sustainability within a circular economy.
The Oxyloop-1 grade has been endorsed by the European Platform for Bottle Packaging (EPBP) for bottle-to-bottle recyclability in the coloured recycled stream.
Unlike nylon-based options, the grade is compatible with recycled PET (rPET), enabling the use of higher recycled material content in packaging.
Designed for applications such as juices, vitamin drinks, ready-to-drink teas, and specific dairy products, ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1 maintains effective oxygen scavenging even with up to 100% rPET content, ensuring product freshness and prolonged shelf life.
The additive supports bottle clarity in both monolayer and multilayer structures, as well as transparent applications requiring high recyclability standards.
Its non-nylon composition minimises yellowing in the transparent recycling stream, preserving the aesthetic quality of clear bottles.
Additionally, ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1 meets direct food contact regulatory requirements in key markets, providing assurance for manufacturers and consumers.
Avient global product platform manager Antonello Decortes said: “We are thrilled to introduce the ColorMatrix Amosorb Oxyloop-1 grade to the market.
“This new Oxyloop technology represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability and circularity.
“By enhancing the recyclability of PET packaging, we are helping brand owners and converters achieve their sustainability goals and reduce their environmental impact.”
Avient’s portfolio of offerings includes colourants, advanced composites, functional additives, engineered materials, and Dyneema fibre.
