German pharmaceutical and healthcare products packaging supplier Gerresheimer has opened a second production site in Kosamba, India.

The new plant will increase the production capacity to meet the growing demand for Triveni round containers.

In 2012, Gerresheimer acquired 75% stake in Delhi-based Triveni Polymers to accelerate its growth in emerging countries.

Gerresheimer Plastic Packaging global executive vice-president Niels Düring said: “Today marks the start of a new chapter in the success story of Gerresheimer and Triveni.

“We acquired a majority stake in the company on 18 December 2012 and now, seven years later, we are opening a new production site to boost our capacity.”

In addition to the second site, the company operates warehouses in Hyderabad, India. Düring expects that the new development will help to reduce product delivery time, increase supply performance and ensure wider coverage for business continuity.

The plant in Kosamba is expected to begin production of Triveni round containers in class-8 and class-9 clean rooms later this month.

The facility will support the company’s vial production from tubular glass for pharmaceutical and diagnostic applications, as well as ampoules.

The packaging company is also planning to build a new greenfield production facility on the same site.

Last week, the company has opened a new plant for manufacturing plastic pharmaceutical packaging in Changzhou, China.

Last month, Gerresheimer launched a refillable plastic bottle for an undisclosed major cosmetics customer
