Packaging solutions company Multivac has officially opened its new production and sales facility in the industrial area of Ghiloth, 120km south-west of Delhi, India.

The ultra-modern complex with a floor space of 10,000m² will start operations in the second quarter of 2024.

The site’s 5,000m² production area will initially assemble small fully automatic traysealers and compact thermoforming packaging machines.

The other 5,000m² of the building is dedicated to a showroom and training and application centre for packaging and bakery machines.

Multivac plans to produce mould sets and dies for packaging machines at the facility starting in 2025.

The new facility also features a hall for storing spare parts and consumable materials.

Multivac Group CEO Christian Traumann said: “With our new plant in India, we will be able to provide food manufacturers as well as medical device companies with even better state-of-the-art packaging technology and responsive service thanks to our regional proximity and new production capacity – from production to installation and putting into service, through to maintenance.”

The company invested approximately €9m ($9.86m) in the project, which took less than two years to finalise.

With this investment, the company aims to optimise its supply in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh due to the increasing demand for packaging machines for fresh food in the region.

The facility will initially employ roughly 60 people.

Traumann added: “The South Asian region has become increasingly important for us in recent years. Us opening a modern plant in one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world today is therefore a further milestone in the internationalisation of Multivac.”

Besides India, Multivac runs 13 production sites in Austria, Brazil, Germany, Spain, China, Bulgaria, Japan, and the US.

It also has more than 80 sales and service companies across the globe.

Earlier this month, Multivac broke ground for its new Wolfertschwenden #2 production factory.
