Chocolates Valor, a renowned Spanish chocolate manufacturer established in 1881, has introduced a sustainable twist to its packaging for some of its cocoa products.

The company, known for its wide array of chocolate bars and snacks, has partnered with Sonoco, a packaging solutions provider, to utilise its recyclable GREENCAN packaging solution.

The GREENCAN package by Sonoco is crafted from 92-98% paperboard, boasting various barrier properties to maintain the freshness of the chocolates.

Available in diverse shapes and sizes, including round, square, rectangular, oval, oblong, or triangular, the GREENCAN is designed to be highly recyclable, aligning with Chocolates Valor’s commitment to sustainability.

One notable feature of Sonoco’s GREENCAN is its integrated paper lid, allowing the entire package to be recycled without requiring disassembly.

This streamlines the recycling process for consumers and enhances the overall recyclability of the packaging.

Positive consumer response

Maria Roldán, Technical Purchasing specialist at Chocolates Valor, highlights the positive feedback from consumers regarding the eco-friendly packaging.

She notes that consumers appreciate the brand’s dedication to eco-design and ensuring recyclability criteria are met, reflecting a growing demand for sustainable products.

Longstanding partnership for sustainability

David Vilanova, sales manager at Sonoco Consumers Europe, underscores the enduring partnership between Sonoco and Chocolates Valor, characterised by shared values and a commitment to excellence.

Vilanova emphasises that the GREENCAN technology represents a step towards achieving sustainability goals for both companies.

Chocolates Valor’s adoption of Sonoco’s GREENCAN packaging signifies a significant stride towards sustainability in the chocolate industry, aligning with global efforts to reduce environmental impact and promote eco-friendly practices.
