Cartonboard manufacturer AssiDomän Frövi has developed an advanced promotional packaging for aftershave and moisturizing crème to market its product FRÖVI BRIGHT to cosmetic producers and other customers. The packaging demonstrates the cartonboard’s possibilities for innovative design and improved print results. Increased smoothness gives an even whiter impression than previously.

Cartonboard packaging lives a short but hard life before it is recycled. It must be able to handle rough transport, look attractive in the store and have smart functions that simplify handling for all users.

Today, when even the simplest product is packaged in a graphically appealing design, new approaches are needed to stand out on the store shelf. In order to keep exclusive products from disappearing into the crowd, designers and packaging developers are therefore focusing more and more on creative forms and innovative solutions.

Creative shapes are a challenge
"Creative shapes are a challenge, both for the cartonboard and for developers like us. Our role is to transform the designer’s vision into a functional package," explain Lena Dahlberg and Anna Jansson from PackLab at AssiDomän Frövi, who were given the assignment of developing the new packaging idea.

The designer wanted an irregularly shaped package with windows on all sides to allow light to flow through the blue aftershave bottle. In addition, one side was supposed to have double windows in order to also display the jar of crème. The package has two openings and its construction allows it to maintain its stability even if one of the products is removed.

PackLab was able to utilize the material’s high elasticity, which allows the cartonboard to bend 180 degrees. The solution protects the product and at the same time is easy to use. The final result, with metallic painting and lacquered detailing, is 100 percent Packaging Impact!

FRÖVI BRIGHT combines the strength characteristics of unbleached kraftboard with a white and luxurious reverse. The construction of the board uses the well-established Frövi approach - a four layer virgin fibre board with a bleached (TCF= Totally Chlorine Free) clay-coated top layer. The difference with FRÖVI BRIGHT is that it also has a bleached bottom layer, making it unique in the market place. FRÖVI BRIGHT has the right strength properties for weight reduction and smart packaging solutions. Other outstanding characteristics are purity and a good printing surface. Substance range 270 - 390 gsm.
