The global packaging industry noticed a 1.3% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 8.04% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 3.35% when compared with June 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.29% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, up 0.25% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 0.93% higher compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 1.7% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 47.65% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in July 2021, a 3.21% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 15.94% in July 2021, up 9.34% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.31% share in July 2021, decline of 4.72% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Research Scientists with a 10.14% share in July 2021 and rise of 29.05% over June 2021.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 32.68% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
Ball posted 183 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 12.02% over the previous month, followed by Fujitsu General with 169 jobs and a 172.58% rise. British American Tobacco with 77 IT jobs and PepsiCo with 60 jobs, recorded a 42.59% increase and a 1.69% growth, respectively, while Under Armour recorded a 103.7% growth with 55 job postings during July 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 45.94% share, which marked a 1.06% growth over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 34.43%, registering a 6.44% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.86% share and a 14.97% rise over June 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.46% and a month-on-month drop of 5.08%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.31%, registering a 63.16% drop over the previous month.
