The global packaging industry noticed a 3.6% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 9.46% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity increased 9.12% when compared with July 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.26% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, down 0.03% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 1.28% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 2.25% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 47.2% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in August 2021, a 2.63% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 15.79% in August 2021, up 5.59% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.67% share in August 2021, a growth of 23.13% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.58% share in August 2021 and a rise of 13.15% over July 2021.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 44.94% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during August 2021 over July 2021.
Ball posted 238 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 7.69% over the previous month, followed by British American Tobacco with 181 jobs and an 118.07% growth. Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 90 IT jobs and PepsiCo with 71 jobs, recorded an 80% growth and a 12.7% rise, respectively, while Unilever recorded a 132.14% rise with 65 job postings during August 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in August 2021 with a 54.04% share, which marked a 21.12% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 28.67%, registering a 15.18% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 14.55% share and an 11.38% drop over July 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.87% and a month-on-month drop of 22.95%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.87%, registering a 266.67% increase over the previous month.
