This compares to a 283% increase versus Q3 2021.

Maintenance and Repair Workers, General, with a share of 3%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the packaging industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings rising by 75% quarter-on-quarter. Marketing and Sales Managers came in second with a share of 3% in Q3 2022, with new job postings rise by 233% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Financial Managers with a 2% share in Q3 2022, Machinists with a 2% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in packaging industry accounted for 45% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were PCA Denver, Ball, Ardagh Group and Ardagh Metal Packaging. Together they accounted for a combined share of 45% of all environmental sustainability-related active jobs in the packaging industry.

PCA Denver posted 905 jobs in Q3 2022 and registered a rise of % over the previous quarter, followed by Ball with 795 jobs and a 26% drop. Ardagh Group with 712 jobs and Ardagh Metal Packaging with 450 jobs, recorded a 16% decline and a 2547% increase, respectively, while Westrock recorded a 24% increase with 314 job postings during Q3 2022.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 71% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the packaging industry in Q3 2022 was in the US with 71% followed by India (10%) and the UK (5%). The share represented by the US was two percentage points lower than the 74% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
