The global packaging industry experienced an 18% rise in new job postings related to social responsibility in Q3 2022 compared with the previous quarter, according to GlobalData’s whitepaper on Social Responsibility in Packaging – Hiring Activity in Q3 2022. This compares to an 82% increase versus Q3 2021.

Notably, Maintenance and Repair Workers, General jobs accounted for a 4% share of the global packaging industry’s social responsibility-related total new job postings in Q3 2022, up 40% over the prior quarter.

Maintenance and Repair Workers, General, with a share of 4%, emerged as the top social responsibility-related job roles within the packaging industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings rising by 40% quarter-on-quarter. Machinists came in second with a share of 3% in Q3 2022, with new job postings rise by 14% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent social responsibility roles include Industrial Production Managers with a 3% share in Q3 2022, First-Line Supervisors of Production and Operating Workers with a 3% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in packaging industry accounted for 35% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were Tetra Laval International, Ball, Westrock and Cascades. Together they accounted for a combined share of 35% of all social responsibility-related active jobs in the packaging industry.

Tetra Laval International posted 466 jobs in Q3 2022 and registered a rise of 64% over the previous quarter, followed by Ball with 453 jobs and a 19% drop. Westrock with 425 jobs and Cascades with 272 jobs, recorded a 34% growth and a 17% increase, respectively, while PCA Denver recorded a 10% increase with 259 job postings during Q3 2022.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 73% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022

The largest share of social responsibility-related new job postings in the packaging industry in Q3 2022 was in the US with 73% followed by the UK (6%) and Canada (5%). The share represented by the US was three percentage points lower than the 76% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
