The global packaging industry noticed a 0.9% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 9.55% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.36% when compared with September 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.17% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, down 0.15% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 1.96% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 3.89% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.56% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in October 2021, a 2.52% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 15.77% in October 2021, up 3.56% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 15.1% share in October 2021, a decline of 19.38% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 10.76% share in October 2021 and a rise of 20.56% over September 2021.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 11.09% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
Ball posted 229 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 31.64% over the previous month, followed by Panasonic with 139 jobs and a 39% growth. Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 76 IT jobs and The Procter & Gamble with 69 jobs, recorded a 35.71% growth and a 30.19% rise, respectively, while Carrier Global recorded a 41.67% drop with 56 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 53.23% share, which marked a 6.79% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 30.54%, registering a 2.52% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 11.89% share and a 10.09% drop over September 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.8% and a month-on-month rise of 6.35%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.38%, registering a 26.92% increase over the previous month.
