The global packaging industry noticed a 2.7% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by Nestle ’s 5.32% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 5.71% when compared with April 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.43% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, up 0.17% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 6.79% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 13.35% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive packaging IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 38.77% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in May 2022, a 16.76% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.01% in May 2022, down 12.81% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.61% share in May 2022, a decline of 13.74% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 14.26% share in May 2022 and a drop of 10.03% over April 2022.

Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 11.6% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Nestle posted 107 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 56.15% over the previous month, followed by Ball with 106 jobs and a 5.36% decline. Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 87 IT jobs and Panasonic with 73 jobs, recorded a 222.22% growth and a 6.41% drop, respectively, while PepsiCo recorded a 76.92% rise with 69 job postings during May 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 49.9% share, which marked a 14.26% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 26.89%, registering a 9.68% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.84% share and a 17.97% drop over April 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.33% and a month-on-month rise of 45.65%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.04%, registering a 61.82% decrease over the previous month.
