The global packaging industry noticed a 4.2% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 5.77% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 3.48% when compared with June 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.47% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, flat growth over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 5.49% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 12.26% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive packaging IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 37.32% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in July 2022, an 11.18% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 21.35% in July 2022, down 12.13% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 21.31% share in July 2022, a decline of 6.47% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.46% share in July 2022 and a drop of 21.4% over June 2022.

Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 10.17% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Ball posted 145 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a rise of 3.57% over the previous month, followed by Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 94 jobs and a 19.66% decline. PepsiCo with 89 IT jobs and Haier Group with 79 jobs, recorded a 13.59% decline and a 23.3% drop, respectively, while Fujitsu General recorded a 1.28% rise with 79 job postings during July 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 46.4% share, which marked a 17.61% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 28.63%, registering a 10.13% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 20.15% share and an 8% drop over June 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.78% and a month-on-month drop of 2.06%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.04%, registering a 10.34% decrease over the previous month.
