The global packaging industry noticed a 9.6% drop in IT hiring activity in June 2022 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 5.77% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 9.14% when compared with May 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.46% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in June 2022, up 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2022 were 7.86% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 16.88% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive packaging IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 35.92% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in June 2022, a 20.35% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 22.01% in June 2022, down 25.67% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 19.52% share in June 2022, a decline of 16.52% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.41% share in June 2022 and a drop of 18.54% over May 2022.

Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in June 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 1.61% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during June 2022 over May 2022.

Ball posted 139 IT jobs in June 2022 and registered a rise of 13.01% over the previous month, followed by The J. R. Simplot with 102 jobs and a 72.88% growth. Haier Group with 102 IT jobs and PepsiCo with 84 jobs, recorded an 8.11% decline and a 22.94% drop, respectively, while Fujitsu General recorded a 17.89% drop with 78 job postings during June 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in June 2022 with a 50.54% share, which marked a 15.95% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 26.66%, registering a 25.35% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with an 18.4% share and a 21.59% drop over May 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.53% and a month-on-month drop of 30.33%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.87%, registering a 30% decrease over the previous month.
