Custom packaging design company AE Global (AEG) has revealed its plans to launch a new packaging solution, developed in collaboration with Ocean Recovery Group (ORG).
Referred to as ‘EZ-Lock X ORG’, the new solution has already been certified as ‘Plastic Negative’ by rePurpose Global, a plastic action platform that aims to reduce waste by focusing on the traceability and additionality of plastic waste recovery.
The EZ-Lock X ORG packaging has been developed to address the increasing industry demand to provide customisable, scalable as well as a domestically assembled cannabis packaging, that can have a measurable environmental impact.
AEG managing partner Mike Forenza said: “At AE Global, we have proven that we are the industry leader in sustainable packaging. Our closed-loop OBP (Ocean-Bound Plastic) recovery programme captures and converts at-risk materials before it can harm the environment.
“It helps our customers achieve their sustainability goals through eco-friendly packaging options and plastic recovery.”
The company also claimed that its EZ-Lock X ORG is child-resistant; the product itself is made up via an injection moulding process using flakes.

By GlobalDataThe flakes are produced at ORG’s recycling facility in the Dominican Republic.
Further investments from AEG in the facility have helped in establishing a closed-loop infrastructure that can counter plastic pollution on a significant scale.
At this site, the primary goal is to collect OBP, which is then sorted, washed and eventually used for producing flakes.
Each EZ-Lock x ORG tray purchased allows the companies to recover around 35g of plastic, which is closely equivalent to twice the amount of plastic required for producing each tray.
So far, the initiative has helped AEG and ORG to fund the recovery of 80,000lb and 2,148 tonnes of various ocean-bound plastic, respectively.
Forenza added: “By leveraging an in-house recycling platform, we are producing EZ-Lock X ORG in a package that is affordable and functional without sacrificing shelf appeal.”
