Finnish speciality paper maker Ahlstrom-Munksjö has partnered with Seoil to launch a new fibre-based U-shaped drinking straw CelluStrawU.

CelluStraw was designed in response to various food industry initiatives to eliminate single-use plastic straws.

According to the company, the material has been tested and qualified for U-shaped paper straws, enabling it to design a new solution for Seoil, its partners and customers.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö used responsibly sourced natural fibres to produce renewable, recyclable, biodegradable CelluStraw that is safe for food contact.

CelluStraw features various speciality paper grades that are suitable for manufacturing the inner and outer plies of paper straw and can be used on high-speed converting machines for aseptic beverage cartons.
