The new grade is intended to provide a locally available release liner option for customers in South America.
It also sits alongside Ahlstrom’s existing products made in the region, including clay-coated release papers and both coated and uncoated label papers.
According to Ahlstrom, MaxLiner is designed to meet hold-out, density and transparency needs associated with silicone coating, lamination and later stages of PSA label production, including printing, die-cutting and dispensing.
Ahlstrom said the paper uses “responsibly sourced, certified renewable fibres” and can be supplied with chain-of-custody forestry management certification, in line with customers’ sourcing requirements.
The South American production is in addition to its glassine and SCK operations in Europe and North America.
It added that its release liner materials are also used in segments, including composites, food, graphics, industrial, and medical, with production across Europe and North and South America.
Ahlstrom release liners sustainability and marketing head Marco Martinez said: “MaxLiner is a tangible demonstration of Ahlstrom’s continued commitment to the PSA industry and our strong focus on South America.
“With this addition, our Brazilian unit can offer a more complete range of release and label papers, supporting our local customers’ growth with dependable, high-performance solutions, as well as highly responsive service. The development also reflects Ahlstrom’s continuous innovation efforts and ambition to advance new sustainable solutions.”
In February, Ahlstrom introduced Acti-V RRF Natural, a paper release liner designed for double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes that is recyclable with standard paper streams.
The product has passed the CEPI Recyclability Test Method, qualifying it as “Recyclable with Paper” under European standards.
