Austrian packaging firm Alpla has signed a partnership agreement with Taba Group, an Egypt-based plastic bottle and closure manufacturer, to form a joint venture.

This joint venture is expected to bolster Alpla’s market position in Africa and the Middle East, reported Foodbev.com.

Alpla will hold a majority stake in the joint venture (JV), which will be called Alpla Taba.

Further details of the deal have not been disclosed.

"This partnership is another promising step for Alpla to help us expand our market presence in Africa and the Middle East."

Established in 1988 in Egypt, Taba has two locations in El Obour, near Cairo. It manufactures plastic bottles and closures for international clients operating in the food and beverage segments, and has a presence in several markets of Africa and the Middle East.

Alpla has a facility in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Alpla regional manager for Africa, the Middle East and Turkey Christoph Riedlsperger was quoted by the website saying: "This partnership is another promising step for Alpla to help us expand our market presence in Africa and the Middle East.
