Switzerland-based flexible packaging manufacturer Aluflexpack has received dual certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for its site in Drniš, Croatia.
The Performance and Chain of Custody Standard certifications were granted for the packaging production site following independent, third-party audits.
The plant specialises in converting aluminium into flexible packaging via printing, embossing, extrusion and other means.
Launched in 2017, the ASI certification programme covers all the stages of the aluminium value chain.
It sets out 59 criteria across the environmental, social and governance (ESG) categories, covering issues such as biodiversity and greenhouse gas emissions.
Aluflexpack chief financial officer Johannes Steurer said: “As one of the leading international manufacturers of premium flexible packaging, we are proud to have reached production standards that meet ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Certification.
“Receiving this recognition is the result of more than 40 years of experience, great effort and commitment to progress, and we are happy that our achievements have been recognised by the ASI.
“Sustainability is a key factor in our future development and we aim to take this path together with our suppliers and partners.”
The company’s Process Point Service site in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, has also received Chain of Custody Standard Certification.
The Process Point Service plant produces semi-rigid aluminium compound containers and lids.
Regulatory body Technischer Überwachungsverein (TÜV) Rheinland conducted the audits of the two European production sites.
ASI CEO Fiona Solomon said: “The packaging that Aluflexpack produces primarily lands in the hands of consumers.
“With the Chain of Custody Certification and appropriate upstream sourcing in place, Aluflexpack can leverage on-product claims to bring the message of ASI Certified Aluminium’s sustainability properties to a broader public.”
Aluflexpack manufactures a range of flexible packaging products and solutions for the confectionery, dairy, food and pet food sectors, as well as the pharmaceutical industry.
