Amcor is expanding its manufacturing site in Sira, Karnataka, with an aim to meet increasing healthcare packaging demand in India and South Asia.

The company described the move as a “multi-million-dollar” investment, though exact figures remain undisclosed.

The move increases its capacity to develop and produce healthcare packaging and drug-delivery products.

Amcor said this will “significantly” lift output, cut delivery times and improve production flexibility and supply continuity for customers, including both multinational pharmaceutical companies and smaller domestic businesses.

The expansion includes manufacturing equipment with automated online vision systems intended to improve quality control and consistency in the production of ophthalmic containers, injectable vials and other healthcare packaging products.

Amcor said the site’s environmental performance will also benefit from more energy-efficient systems.

The Sira facility runs on 100% renewable energy and has International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification.

In India, the group has three other plants focused on healthcare packaging.

One of them, in Bangalore, provides manufacturing technologies for products such as ophthalmic and nasal delivery systems, inhalation devices and parts used in injectable medicine delivery.

Amcor Global Rigids Packaging Solutions division chief operating officer Jean-Marc Galvez said: “This addition to our Sira plant reflects our strong progress in building world-class healthcare capabilities in India.

“The investment strengthens our strategically located manufacturing network, combining global expertise with local production capabilities to deliver faster response times, reliable supply and consistently high-quality pharmaceutical packaging for customers across the region.”

The latest upgrade follows the April launch of its healthcare packaging coating facility in Malaysia.
