American Packaging Corporation (APC) has expanded its flexible packaging operations for tea products through investment in electron beam (EB) coating systems and precision slitting equipment.

The move is aimed at maintaining flavour and aroma, improving pack appearance, and supporting faster production.

According to APC, its electron beam coatings provide “high gloss, controlled coefficient of friction”, and resistance to scuffing without solvents or emissions that could affect tea’s sensory characteristics.

It said fixed-blade-width slitters are used to deliver narrow slitting tolerances, even roll profiles, and automated movement from master roll to pallet, with the intention of improving speed and consistency in production.

APC said its converting set-up supports flexographic, rotogravure, and digital printing, alongside extrusion and adhesive lamination to tailor package structures for barrier requirements and line performance.

The company works with paper, foil, metallised films, and other substrates to supply a range of flexible packaging formats for tea brands.

APC said its tea packaging formats are intended to support product freshness and aroma retention, print and finish quality, performance on high-speed filling lines, and sustainable packaging options.

Founded in 1902, American Packaging Corporation runs six Centers of Excellence in the US and has 1,300 employees.

In January, the company announced investment at its Columbus, Wisconsin site, where it introduced gravure cylinder engraving technology.

APC said the capability allows it to carry out high-definition certified engravings in-house for its rotogravure packaging activities.

By bringing engraving into its own operations, the company now oversees the full process, including technology implementation and process control, while reducing lead times.
