Supplier of plastic compounds A Schulman has expanded the compounding capacity of its German plant with the addition of two new production lines.

The company is investing in two twin screw extruders in a fully automatic packaging line.

A Schulman senior vice-president and general manager of Europe, the Middle East and Africa Heinrich Lingnau said: "The additional compounding capacity will address the continued growth in high-performance compounds.

"This investment is aligned with the expansion of our product portfolio, and in particular with the production of our new range of Ecotran PPS compounds."

"With this investment A Schulman is supporting the increasing customer demand for current and future developments in the automotive as well as electrical and electronics markets."

EMEA vice-president Engineering Plastics Horst Klink said: "This investment is indeed aligned with the expansion of our product portfolio, and in particular with the production of our new range of Ecotran PPS compounds.

"In addition, it will increase our flexibility in production to better serve our customers with tailor-made specialty compounds."

In 2015, the company expanded its PET compounding capacity at its Bornem masterbatch plant in Belgium.

The company's main product lines include proprietary and custom-formulated engineered plastic compounds, colour concentrates and additives, which are developed to enhance appearance and performance of plastics in several specialised applications.

A Schulman's technology centres in North America and Europe are involved in new product development and colour research.

The company's manufacturing facilities house their own product testing and quality control laboratories for timely delivery of products to its global customer base.
