Burgopak will develop packaging for Map My Mole’s Image Capture Kit, a home-use product built around a clinical dermoscope that attaches to a smartphone, according to a press release posted on WhatTheyThink.

The attachment enables users to take medical-quality images of moles at home before they are reviewed by a consultant dermatologist.

Map My Mole sought packaging that would organise the kit’s contents clearly, including the lens, sachets and instructions, while also keeping the lens protected in transit and storage.

Map My Mole operations director Tottie Dalton said: “The Burgopak design team marry the functional effectiveness from healthcare with the elevated user experience and brand building typical of consumer products.

“This is exactly what drew us to them as our design partner. We’re thrilled with how the packaging looks, and the kits are already helping thousands of people with concerns about new or changing moles.”

The product is supplied through pharmacies and clinics and is also sent directly to users by post, so the packaging had to be suitable for each route.

Burgopak said its Wellness team works on packaging for healthcare products and medical devices such as home test kits, orthodontic products and supplements.

Burgopak senior healthcare project manager Willemijn Zandt said: “It was important that the packaging communicates trust and efficacy, leaving a reassuringly positive first impression. We were mindful that this is a medical device that arrives at what could be quite an anxious moment for the user.

“We also needed to make sure the pack would be quick and efficient to fulfil. We had an operational challenge to rise to, and a user experience to get right, and it was very satisfying to do both.”

Earlier this year, Burgopak partnered with card manufacturer Placard to design a dual-slide bank card packaging format for fintech company Emerge.

The new pack departs from the standard approach of mailing cards attached to letters in plain envelopes. It instead employs a belt-driven sliding mechanism that presents the card as the package is opened.
