Australia-based Cardia Bioplastics has expanded film and bag production at its new purpose-built factory in Nanjing, China.

As part of the expansion, the company has installed six new film extrusion and bag making lines at the factory, which will enable it to meet rising demand for its products.

Cardia Bioplastics has also received orders worth $150,000 from the US and European retailers for its sustainable dog waste bags, which will be manufactured at the China factory.

With the new film extrusion and bag making equipment, Cardia will be capable of doubling its production of both biohybrid and compostable bags to over 250 million bags annually.

The company said that the factory has been running at full capacity from the start due to the increasing number of councils that have opted for Cardia compostable waste management products.

The factory produces a range of compostable and biohybrid bags, films and custom products for a range of retailers, brand owners and councils worldwide.

Cardia Bioplastics China general manager Jackie Chen said: "We are delighted with the expansion of our film and bag production.
