UK-based packaging solutions provider Carlton Packaging is expanding its operations with the signing of a distribution facility in Bedfordshire.

The 172,000ft² facility is located near Bedford, with good transport connectivity across the UK.

Carlton Packaging designs and supplies smart packaging materials and processes for online retailers in the UK and Europe.

The company has facilities in the UK, Italy, Germany and France and aims to develop and implement sustainable packaging processes and materials as part of its corporate sustainability goals.

Carlton Packaging plans to use the distribution facility, which has received Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Excellent certification, as its head office and national distribution centre.

Carlton Packaging director Marcus Magee said: “This is an exciting step forward for Carlton Packaging and a vital development to ensure we continue to support online retailers throughout the UK and Europe with smart products quickly from large stockholding.”

The installation of 200kW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power capacity and 12 electric vehicle (EV) charging points at the facility has been commissioned.

The distribution facility will also host the company’s SmartHub packaging design and development centre.
