Canadian packaging company Cascades has announced the launch of a new eco-designed packaging solution for the egg market.

Dubbed Cascades Fresh GUARD EnVision, the new product promises to offer robust protection for eggs while providing enhanced visual appeal on store shelves.

The packaging design features sleeve openings and a high-quality printing area, deviating from the traditional egg packaging format.

This development is the result of extensive research and development (R&D) and is designed to meet the needs of processors, retailers, and consumers.

Cascades Fresh GUARD EnVision aims to improve egg visibility, strengthen brand presence, and optimise packaging operations.

In addition, Cascades offers a comprehensive solution by providing equipment, packaging, and technical expertise to automate end-of-line operations for egg processors.

Cascades Specialty Products Group president and COO Jérôme Porlier said: “Our team is committed to supporting customers in finding solutions for all their packaging needs, from farm to factory to store to home.

“This innovation challenge aimed to develop a solution that was sustainable, attractive, efficient, and comprehensive. We are proud to have achieved this thanks to the hard work and expertise of our multidisciplinary team. We are confident that this solution will enable us to accelerate our growth in the specialised egg industry.”

The food packaging consists of a moulded pulp base and a sleeve made from coated recycled board, ensuring durability for shelf stocking, transport, and use.

Tests have indicated that Cascades Fresh GUARD EnVision triples the packaging’s rigidity and doubles its stacking strength, offering better protection for eggs, noted the company.

Moreover, the solution is sustainable as it is made from 100% recycled fibres and has been prequalified as widely recyclable by How2Recycle.

Currently, Cascades Fresh GUARD EnVision is available in a 12-egg format.

In February this year, Cascades rolled out a new line of sustainable produce baskets with flaps, designed to offer a greener alternative for the produce sector.
