Canada-based packaging and tissue paper products provider Cascades has introduced its Evok brand of polystyrene foam trays, which features around 25% recycled content, across the US.
Suitable for various food packaging services, including meat, poultry, fish and seafood, as well as fruits and vegetables, the trays are designed to replace the traditional polystyrene foam trays.
The newly launched trays are manufactured in the US in response to the needs of various businesses eager to reduce their environmental impact.
By replacing its regular polystyrene foam trays with Evok, Cascades will also be able to reduce its carbon footprint by an equivalent of 750t of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, which is equivalent to more than 270,000 round trips to the grocery store in an average-size vehicle.
Launched in 2013, the Evok trays offer both economically and environmentally viable packaging option.
Cascades specialty products group president and chief operating officer Luc Langevin said: “This announcement reinforces our leadership position as a manufacturer of environmentally friendly packaging for fresh food and our dedication to being a solution provider of choice for our clients.”
Last month, Cascades launched three new PRO Tandemfamilies of interfold dispensers that contain a stand/wall unit, a smaller capacity tabletop unit, and a large capacity countertop unit.
The dispensers are developed to help reduce waste and costs for the foodservice market and other establishments that handle the preparation, dispensing or consumption of food.
