Canadian packaging and paper products manufacturer Cascades has announced that its Norampac division will close its containerboard mill in Burnaby, British Colombia, by 1 December 2011.
Cascades said production at the mill, which has an annual capacity of 128,000t will be redirected to other Norampac facilities.
The mill produces 100% recycled linerboard, medium and gypsum.
Norampac chief executive Marc-Andre Dépin said the company could not pursue the mill’s operations as its profitability has been below expectations for a few years.
