Canadian speciality label, security, and packaging solutions provider CCL Industries has announced it has obtained the Association of Plastic Recyclers’ (APR) approval for its polyolefin shrink sleeve technology.

Based in the US, the APR is an international non-profit organisation focused mainly on improving recycling for plastics.

Referred to as EcoFloat, CCL’s polyolefin shrink sleeve can be used for manufacturing high-density polyethylene (HDPE) bottles as well as polypropylene (PP) cups.

According to the company, this sustainable sleeve material has been designed to help customers achieve their recycling targets.

CCL said that the EcoFloat material also helps in improving the sink/float separation process related to PET bottles.

CCL Label’s management team member Guenther Birkner said: “We see EcoFloat as the sustainable decoration solution of the future – for a whole range of packaging in the beverage, dairy, home care and other industries.

“So, we are proud that this has been verified by receiving the recognition of APR with one of the world’s most widely accepted and comprehensive testing protocols that ensures new packaging products and innovations meet recycling guidelines and do not contaminate the recycling stream.”

The latest certification signifies that Ecofloat the printed polyolefin shrink sleeve on HDPE containers is meeting or exceeding the APR’s HDPE Critical Guidance criteria, called the HDPE-CG-01 Critical Guidance Protocol, for HDPE Rigid Containers.

CCL cited the APR’s recognition letter, stating: “A Review Committee, appointed per the APR Recognition Operating Procedures, reviewed your data submission and concluded the data were correctly obtained by a qualified laboratory and were completely presented to show shrink sleeves submitted meet or exceed the most challenging test conditions and strictest APR Critical Guidance criteria.”

Before receiving the APR’s recognition, EcoFloat secured the ‘Made for Recycling’ label certification from recycling organisation Interseroh in Europe.
