Chomps, a US-based snack brand, has announced a partnership with 4ocean to combat plastic pollution affecting marine environments.
The joint initiative focuses on removing plastic waste from coastal communities and surrounding waters.
Chomps co-founder Pete Maldonado said: “While we realise this isn’t going to immediately solve the problem, Chomps is committing resources and planning to do our part in improving the plastic pollution problem.
“We believe in transparency and accountability and will keep our community informed with ongoing updates on the pounds of plastic collected along with imagery from cleanups on our website.”
This partnership marks a step in Chomps’ broader environmental strategy.
4ocean employs full-time crews to extract plastic waste from oceans and coastlines every day.
The group also targets ocean-bound plastic within 50km of shorelines.
Chomps co-founder and CEO Rashid Ali said: “We acknowledge our role in contributing to plastic waste and are committed to taking a leadership role in offsetting it through our partnership with 4ocean.
“While sustainable packaging alternatives remain limited, this is a critical step in mitigating the impact of single-use plastics while we continue to explore long-term solutions.”
Since its inception in 2017, 4ocean has collected over 40 million pounds (mlb) of plastic waste.
As a Public Benefit Corporation and Certified B Corp, 4ocean funds a global cleanup operation, which helps in recovering plastic and other debris from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines annually.
4ocean co-founder Alex Schulze said: “This collaboration not only helps clean our ocean and coastlines but also sets an example for what corporate responsibility can look like in action.”
