Flexible and sustainable packaging solutions provider Coveris has launched a comprehensive programme to upgrade and expand two of its German medical packaging production sites. 

Located in Halle and Rohrdorf, the investment in the two sites is part of the company’s commitment to support customers to achieve high quality and cleanliness levels.

The investment is part of the company’s announcement earlier this year to grow its medical segment towards industry 4.0 standards.

Coveris’ location in Halle is already in the implementation phase of modernisation. The company expects the finalisation to take place in the first quarter of next year.

The company noted that the Rohrdorf plant did not support execution of the expansion plans to meet industry requirements.

Therefore, Coveris has decided to relocate its Rohrdorf medical business to a new site.

The facility is located just 1.5km from the existing plant and is expected to commence commercial operation in May 2021.

Equipped with an ISO Class 7 clean room to support reliable production, the new building features a modern design and is energy optimised.

Coveris CEO Jakob Mosser said: “Medical packaging is one of our core businesses and I am delighted about this breakthrough initiative.

“Our customers will benefit even more from our inhouse offering, combining film extrusion, printing and pouch production– all at the highest and leading-edge cleanliness standards.”

Last month, Coveris announced the acquisition of HLB|SFV, a family owned company which specialises in producing and selling paper bags and paper-based flexibles on reels.
